MARK KARAN  —  www.markkaran.com
Boneheads are very fortunate that, after bumping into each other for years around the L.A. live & studio scene, John Molo recommended that Mark try out for the guitar seat in the Other Ones (he got the gig). That brought him to Bob Weir's attention, and that same year, RatDog got its guitarist and Mark came home to San Francisco.
Born and raised to a Bay Area bohemian family, Mark discovered The Beatles and the guitar at about age nine and by around age 12 was hanging around Golden Gate Park checking out all the freaky music. He hasn't been far away from a guitar since. After years of playing the Bay Area in a wide variety of musical endeavors (leading to his varied and eclectic style), his talents landed him the guitar seat with Dave Mason, Delaney Bramlett, the Rembrandts, Paul Carrack, Huey Lewis, Jesse Colin Young and Sophie B. Hawkins.
Since returning to the Bay Area fold with the Other Ones, he's toured extensively with Mickey Hart's Planet Drum, done a little with Phil Lesh & Friends, and of course has spent the past ten years as lead guitarist with the Dog. More recently, he's played with Little Feat, Spearhead, New Monsoon, Galactic, String Cheese Incident, Particle, NRPS, and most of the rest of the jamband world and has done numerous television appearances on shows like Austin City Limits, Conan O'Brien, Late Night w/Craig Kilborn, the Today Show, Regis & Kathy Lee (now that was an odd one!) and so forth.
An accomplished vocalist and writer in his own right, when he's not Dogging around, Mark fires up his band Jemimah Puddleduck and takes it out for a cruise.
